Teacher-Kindergarten Enrichment
Gail
Hi, my name is Ms. Gail. I am the afternoon Kindergarten Enrichment teacher. I have earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Mansfield University in 1984 with an Elementary Degree and an Early Childhood Education concentration. I started at Children Central in August 2011 as a substitute teacher, which I will continue to do in the mornings as needed. I have been a kindergarten teacher for the past two years and before that I taught Pre-K for four years and also taught preschool to 3 year olds. To sum it all up, I have a lot of experience teaching young children.
I especially love the Kindergarten age! They are so eager to read and write and I love to see their ‘light go on’ as their faces beam when they really start to read and write! I truly get goose bumps from their excitement when they finally ‘get it.’ I do a lot of hands-on teaching with the children as we discuss a letter of the week, science, math, social studies and language skills. I enjoy doing music, art, physical activities and teaching about nature with this age too! Since my kindergarten class will already have had a half day of school, I get the joy of extending their day. I work on the fundamental skills they will need for first grade. The children will be able to read and write sentences by the end of the school year. Also, they will learn addition, subtraction, telling time, understanding currency and other math skills. I love discussing and showing children the map of the United States and learning about our great country. I enjoy teaching children about nature and we will plant various vegetables to help children learn about what they should eat. Of course, manners and showing respect are also important too! These are just some of the activities and skills the Kindergarten Enrichment class learns.
On a personal note, I am married to Russell for 22 years. We have two teenagers. Allison is a sophomore at college and Justin is a senior at high school and will be looking at colleges for next year. I am the youngest of 9 children. My Mom is 88 and we go upstate to visit my family often. I like to garden, sing, walk for exercise, read on my Kindle and attend church.
