Teacher-Preschool
Melissa M.
My name is Miss Melissa and I am one of the Preschool (ages 3-4) teachers here at Children Central. I have been a teacher at Children Central since September 2009, as I started in the Twaddler classroom (ages 2-3). I “graduated” together with my class to become a Preschool teacher. I truly enjoying teaching the children and preparing them for Pre-K and for their future educational success.
I began to pursue a career teaching young children when I first took a child development class in 1996. Throughout the years of teaching, I have worked with children from age 6 weeks to 12 years. I even worked my way to Director’s Assistant, but soon realized my passion was working hands-on in the classroom with the children. Working at Children Central gave me the extra drive to pursue my CDA (Child Development Associates) credential to further advance my years of training and experience, which I earned in February 2011.
In addition to my experience in child care, I am a mother of a terrific boy who is 5 years old. Once my son was born, life has been filled with so much joy. Working with young children has also helped me grow and learn as a parent as well. My son currently attends the excellent Pre-K program and will soon join the full-day kindergarten at Children Central. I am overjoyed with the high quality child care that Children Central provides for my son. Children Central is a fun, family oriented school with high learning standards. It enables me to continue my career providing education and a nurturing environment for young children.
Marsha
Hello! My name is Miss Marsha. I joined Children Central in March 2011 after teaching for 27 years at a preschool in the Philadelphia area. I always enjoy helping young children grow in all areas of their development and am glad to continue my passion for teaching at Children Central.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University (University Park, PA.), in Infancy and Early Childhood Development. Professionally, I have taught in the preschool classroom with children 3-4 years of age for most of my career and in the Head Start Program (mixed age group 3-5 years old) under the supervision of the Philadelphia School District.
Science is one of my favorite areas of interest. I won the National Terri Lynne Lokoff Childcare Award in March 2003 for enhancing the science center in my preschool classroom. Just watching the faces of my students learning through a variety of available hands-on experiences was my dream come true. I have a strong background in child psychology, children's literacy and creative movement activities.
My hobbies include reading, swimming, taking long walks and storytelling. I am the youngest sibling of a much older brother and two sisters. I have three great nieces and one great nephew. Teaching young children is my greatest passion.
